Julie Gengler: From Incarceration to Ministry

More than a decade ago, Julie Gengler shared a heartfelt reflection in Volume 2 (2012) of I Am Beautiful, Dismas Ministry’s publication featuring the writings, artwork, and stories of women who are incarcerated. At the time, Julie was serving a prison sentence and was searching for hope, healing, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Recently, Julie reached out to Dismas Ministry with a simple but powerful message:

“Your ministry was a more important part of my stay than I even realized.”

Her words reminded us that the seeds of faith planted during incarceration can continue to bear fruit long after a person returns to the community.
