Dismas Ministry is proud to announce the launch of a new book series

created BY men in prison, FOR men in prison.

I Am Worthy is a powerful, trauma-informed project that invites men who are currently incarcerated to share their writings, poetry, reflections, and artwork—offering a rare and meaningful opportunity to be published.

This is more than a book. It is a platform for men who are incarcerated and have experience trauma or abuse to reclaim their story, give voice to their experiences, and bring healing, strength, and dignity to themselves and to others walking a similar path.

I Am Worthy builds on the legacy of our I Am Beautiful series, which has empowered thousands of incarcerated women to rediscover their identity and self-worth through creative expression. After hearing from countless men behind bars asking for a similar resource, we created I Am Worthy to affirm their dignity and offer them the same opportunity for growth, connection, and transformation.

The Purpose

I Am Worthy was born from a simple but profound truth. Incarcerated men are searching for ways to change, to grow, and to be seen for who they are—not just for what they have done. This project seeks to meet that need by creating a space for reflection, creativity, and connection. It is a chance to speak honestly, inspire others, and work toward healing and transformation.

By amplifying the voices of incarcerated men, this book fosters personal growth, accountability, and hope. It creates a sense of belonging and encouragement, reminding each reader that they are not alone in their journey.

The Need

Many incarcerated men have experienced trauma, loss, and isolation. Too often, they lack resources that promote emotional healing, self-expression, and constructive engagement. I Am Worthy provides a supportive outlet where their voices can be heard and their stories valued. It is a space to begin building a healthier relationship with themselves and others.

The Impact

• Provides a meaningful platform for self-expression
• Encourages dignity, self-worth, and personal development
• Builds community and connection within prison walls
• Offers free distribution to men’s correctional facilities across the country
• Contributes to restorative practices by highlighting stories of change and accountability

Details

Here are the details for Volume 1 of I Am Worthy:

  • Submission deadline: We are currently accepting submissions through August 1, 2026.
  • Length guidelines: There is no strict minimum, but we suggest:
    • Poetry: 1–2 pages (approximately 150–600 words, depending on style)
    • Reflections or essays: Approximately 700 words
Longer and shorter pieces are absolutely welcome.
  • Artwork submissions: Artwork can be mailed as original pieces or high-quality copies – though originals are preferred.  We ask that each piece include the contributor’s name clearly written on the back. If possible, a brief description or title is appreciated.
  • Contributor information: We ask contributors to include their name and facility. Including a hometown is optional. Published pieces will typically include the individual’s name and facility unless they request otherwise. We are very mindful of privacy and will honor any request for anonymity.
  • All submissions become the property of Dismas Ministry and will not be returned.
  • Each contributor will receive their own FREE copy of the completed book.
  • Each individual who submits will be notified by mail regarding the status of their submission, whether it is accepted or not.
  • All submissions will be thoughtfully reviewed by our literary review team, who will determine the final selection and appropriate length of each piece for publication. While we provide general guidelines to help shape submissions, we value authentic expression and will make decisions based on the overall quality, clarity, and impact of the work. Our goal is to honor each contributor’s voice.

Our hope is to make this as accessible and encouraging as possible, giving men the space to share their voices in a meaningful and dignified way.

While this is a work of art, and a valued resource, there are production costs that need to be covered. If you would like to support this special project, please consider a donation to Dismas Ministry today!

Help us tell the world that incarcerated men are more than their past. They are seen. They are heard. They are worthy. By supporting I Am Worthy, you help make space for dignity, creativity, and change—where it is needed most.
